Welcome to Sacred Wings Shrouds

Sacred Wings grew from a lifelong fascination with the stories that textiles, handmade objects and rituals can carry.

For more than twenty years I have worked as a visual artist, exploring memory, folklore, nature and the quiet ways materials can express what words often cannot. My practice has included painting, installation, textile art and collaborative projects with writers, filmmakers and musicians. My MA research, The Everyday and the Sacred, continues to shape everything I make today.

I discovered burial shrouds at a time when I was searching for work that felt both creatively fulfilling and genuinely useful. I realised that a shroud could be far more than an alternative to a coffin. It could become one final act of care — offering beauty, dignity and tenderness while creating space for those who remain.

A short film about my work, my materials and why I make burial shrouds.

More Than a Shroud

From my studio at Phoenix Art Space in Brighton, I create handcrafted burial shrouds for natural burial, cremation and traditional funerals. Some are available as ready made pieces, while others are gently personalised or created in conversation with the people who commission them.

In 2025, Sacred Wings received the Best Coffin Supplier Award from the Association of Green Funeral Directors, recognising handmade burial shrouds as a thoughtful alternative to conventional coffins.

Alongside Sacred Wings, I co founded Luna Arts, creating workshops and creative projects that encourage thoughtful conversations around death, grief and remembrance.

Whether I am making a shroud, leading a workshop or working with a family, I return to the same question:

How might creativity help us meet death with greater tenderness, honesty and care?

Beyond a Shroud

Sacred Wings is an extension of my artistic practice, bringing together everything that has mattered to me as an artist, textile maker and educator: working with materials, making by hand and creating objects that carry meaning as well as purpose.

Every shroud is made slowly and thoughtfully. Some remain beautifully simple, while others incorporate botanical printing, cyanotype, embroidery or treasured family textiles. Whatever form they take, they are created with the same care, reliability and attention to detail that families and funeral professionals rightly expect.

I think of my work as contemporary funerary textiles that also happen to perform a practical role. They care for the body, but they also create space for those who remain: through wrapping, placing flowers, sharing stories or simply being present together.

My hope is that every Sacred Wings shroud offers more than an alternative to a coffin. I hope it offers a different way of approaching death, one that leaves room for beauty, creativity, agency and love.
